Conventional Radio

Choosing the correct wireless network to transport the data from the mobile work force to the base dispatch location (and vice versa) is absolutely important. With the wrong network in place you will have unpredictable results quickly losing confidence in the technology, resulting in your work force not using it or worse, confidently making excuses that it does not work.

The type, level and signal penetration of the various wireless services varies from city to city and/or state to state. Our Dealers know their coverage areas best and can help you make a well informed decision.

The general rule to follow is easy. If data requirement is low, e.g. 10 - 15 minute location updates from vehicles with low to medium messaging, you can easily accommodate your needs using an existing or new two-way conventional or trunking radio system (low recurring monthly cost). If you need 2 minute updates and expect to have excessive bi directional messaging, sensors, controls or automatic status messages, a cellular data solution is best (high monthly recurring cost).

TWO-WAY RADIO AND TRUNKING

Two-way radio and radio trunking systems are the oldest forms of mobile communications. Police departments, public safety officials and private enterprise continue to use FCC licensed two-way radio as a cost effective, very secure and ultra reliable means to communicate with their work force. Mobile devices are available as fixed in vehicle units or hand held portables. Major manufactures include Motorola, Kenwood, EFJohnson, Midland, Tait, Icom, and Vertex/Standard.

What you need to know:

CES Wireless products are compatible with many of the popular two-way radio units.
CES Wireless products are certified by Motorola and available from Motorola Resellers.
CES Wireless products are compatible with radio trunking networks
With two-way radio and radio trunking, you get both voice and data communications
Hand held portables cannot be used because they are 'portable" and usually removed from a vehicle.
There are NO monthly fees associated with the transfer of data "over the air" on conventional two-way radio systems. A small per vehicle fee is normally charged for airtime over "trunked" radio systems.
Two way radio and radio trunking systems do not allow for the same throughput of data traffic as a cellular system, but adequate for most applications. Please consult your CES Wireless representative or Reseller who will assist you in choosing which option is best for you.
CES Wireless products 'plug' into the radio and share the same channel with voice communications. If you have more than one channel available, channel steering can be enabled. On trunking systems, data is sent on a dedicated data group to minimize congestion on the voice channel.
