Intelligent Fleet Management with GPS Tracking
Location Updates
Vehicle devices can be programmed
to
provide the dispatch center with timed updates, e.g. every 1 minutes.
The time period is programmable, which is dependant on needs, and
wireless capacity to handle the data generated.
Speed Exceptions
The vehicle devices can be programmed with speed exception information.
Once that speed is exceeded, the unit reports the instance back
to the dispatcher center.
Distance Traveled
The vehicle devices can be programmed
to
report GPS based on distance traveled.
Starts/Stops
The vehicle devices can be programmed to report position based on user definable start/stop
activity.
Exception Reporting
Products have auxiliary inputs (e.g. ignition or meter on/off) that
report vehicle position on a change of state, e.g. door open.
Status Activation
Vehicle location is automatically updated when the driver activates
terminal status/menu key or emergency control (TRK-240).
Data Logging
The CES Wireless products have the capability of automatically storing
vehicle activity and location for extended periods of time. This may be
required when the vehicle is outside the wireless geographical coverage
area or indeed a faulty antenna. Once the vehicle returns
to the wireless coverage area, all of
the data stored in memory is
downloaded to the dispatch
center.
MOTION-trak
Movement Intelligence: MOTION-trak™ is a movement-based algorithm that
compares previous vehicle GPS samplings to new ones and then reacts to
preprogrammed instructions. For example, this technology limits location
updates if the vehicle has not moved between samples. This keeps the
wireless infrastructure from becoming cluttered with redundant data
(e.g. Instead of 12 samples of GPS data an hour for a sitting truck,
there will only be one sample).
But, what will happen if the mobile unit is in stop
and go heavy traffic? In order
to provide reliable reporting, the
unit can be programmed
to log
and send the data 10 seconds (programmable) after the unit has stopped or begun
to move.
MOTION-trak™ also reacts
to Auxiliary Input 1,
to change the reporting interval. When a police car
turns on the emergency siren and auxiliary 1 changes polarity, the
product can be programmed
to
change its reporting interval from say every 10 minutes
to
every 5 seconds (programmable).
DACT
A proprietary Data Accumulation Compression Technology, (DACT™), allows
for the recording and accumulation of data over extended periods, and
then “rapid fire” transfers over a wireless infrastructure at pre
programmed time intervals. DACT™ provides detailed, step-by-step, stop-by-stop, event-by-event information on the vehicle being
tracked, together with vital
statistics for accurate management analysis or playback. This is in
addition
to regular updates as described
above.
This provides the user with the capability to record vehicle activity every 15 seconds
(programmable), from speed, velocity, position, stop, starts, auxiliary inputs etc, and using a
propriety technology, the data is compressed and transmitted to the dispatch center at a programmable time period,
from 1 minute up
to 45 days.
This is a second reporting layer, in addition to regular interval reporting.
The application of this technology allows for the collection of
extensive amounts of data for historical
management reports. This data could be used
to
analyze routes, driver efficiency, or provide proof for claims against
the company (i.e. windshield broken by your trucks loose gravel). This
overcomes the challenge of most wireless systems and the limited about
of data that can be sent ‘real time’ because of issues relating
to
spectrum, capacity or airtime. Using this feature, customers can reduce their airtime charges
dramatically.
GEO-fencing
Geographical co-ordinates of the vehicles travel path or target
destinations can be programmed or transmitted
to the terminal. Once the vehicle
reaches that location border, the terminal advises the dispatcher automatically.
Various zone sizes can be accommodated.
Poll
The dispatcher can send a command
to the vehicle device at any time and
receive its current location automatically.
geo-STATUS™
geo-STATUS™ is a proprietary ‘patent pending’ technology developed by
CES Wireless
to allow for certain “location based”
statuses to be automated (i.e. at plant, leave plant, on job, leave
job). The GPS samples and looks for a match to the plant zones/job ticket zone stored. Once the device acknowledges its presence in a
particular zone the terminal automatically reports this specific and unique status
to the
Dispatch
Center. Entry and exit is reported. The
geo-STATUS™ coordinates can be preprogrammed in the terminal, or can be
programmed over the air by the host software therefore supporting customer
locations that can change regularly throughout the day. The product can
support 99 different geo-STATUS coordinates.
Vehicle Management
Stun
& Revive
The dispatcher can send a command
to the vehicle and ‘stun” the unit.
This can be reversed by sending a ‘revive” command. This can be linked
to ignition
to stop
the vehicle when stolen.
ANI
When using a two-way radio system, every time the radio ‘press to talk’ is activated, the unit identity and the
geographical location is sent
to
the dispatcher.
Auxiliary Inputs and Outputs
In vehicle units have inputs and outputs
to
monitor and control vehicle
activities. Inputs can be connected to ignition, doors, siren, seat belt indicator,
money shoot etc. When a state changes (open or close) the exception is
reported back to the dispatch center.
Auxiliary outputs allow the dispatcher
to
control the vehicle, e.g. honk horn, turn lights on, kill ignition.
MileagePlus
Provides the dispatcher with accurate mileage that the vehicle had
traveled. Can be sent as the mileage between status reports or the
accumulated mileage.
Vehicle
Status Monitoring
Manual/Automatic Vehicle Status
CES Wireless products contain smart algorithms that provide either
manual or automatic vehicle status updates. Using the TRK-240
status keys, the driver can manually select a key that reflects their
current status and with the touch of a button update the dispatch
center. This message is appended with the current location and time.
Products also contain auxiliary inputs that can connect
to various parts of the vehicle, e.g.
ignition. When the ignition is turned on or off the CES Wireless device
updates the dispatch center on the new state.
CES Wireless products also
support Automatic Status, which use on board electronics,
vehicle location and logic to
decide the current status of the vehicle. For example, in the Garbage
industry, a job ticket is sent to
the TRK-240 terminal, which also
contains the geographical coordinates of the vehicles target customer location. When the vehicle reaches the
location, the CES Wireless device knows its there and sends the status
‘at location’ to the dispatch
center. In the Readymix industry when the drum starts to rotate at a certain speed and direction, and
knowing that the vehicle is at the customer’s location, the CES Wireless device will send a
status indicating that the unit is ‘pouring”. This same logic and
process can be transformed to
other industries as well
Work Force Messaging/Job Tickets
Two-Way Text/Job Tickets
The CES Wireless models TRK-240 are in vehicle GPS based message display
terminals with an intelligent driver interface. A dispatcher can
send text messages to the
terminal/driver, e.g. delivery instructions, traffic information etc,
and the driver can respond with updates on activities.
The TRK-240 also supports
intelligent work order processing and job tickets. The dispatcher can
send job tickets to the driver and the driver can respond with manual
or auto updates on specific
job status'. The TRK-240 supports multiple job tickets and manifests.
Canned Messages
Both the TRK-240 can be programmed with text messages affording the
driver or dispatch to rapidly send recurring messages with the click of
a button.
Status/Menu Keys
Both the TRK-240 contain status and menu keys, which provides the driver
with a one-button control to update the dispatch center on current job
or vehicle activities, e.g. on site, at plant, in service, breakdown.
Moreover, these keys can be programmed as menu keys to obtain further information from the driver, e.g.
when the driver activates the In Service key, the display asks, “Please
enter the odometer reading”. The driver using the numeric keypad enters
the odometer reading and presses Send. The status keys and prompts are
entirely user programmable to
reflect customer activities
or industry.
Peripheral Devices
Bar Code Reader
The CES Wireless devices support third party bar code readers. This
provides the user with the capability of tracking packages, gas tanks or
any merchandise or inventory.
Also used for scanning employee ID badges.
Credit Card Processing
The TRK-240 supports field commerce. With the optional card reader,
credit card transactions can be processed from the field. The driver can
enter the dollar amount to be processed. If the card is not read properly,
the TRK-240 switches
to a
manual mode for driver entry.
Magnetic Card Reader
The TRK-240 supports data entry using a magnetic card reader. With the
optional card reader, identity and product information can be processed
from the field. The driver can enter numeric information
to be processed with the scan. If the card is not read
properly, the TRK-240 switches
to a manual mode for driver entry.
Mobile Printer
The TRK-240 supports a number of printers depending on the application.
This can take the form of credit card receipts, or job ticket
printers.
Taxi Meter Interface
The TRK-240 can monitor
taximeter activity and advise the dispatch center when the meter is on
and when it is off. It also supports the capability of advising the dispatch
center of the dollar
total
per trip (select meters only).
